WordPress Content Audit vs AI Writing — Which First?

NetoTraffic has two content tools that get mixed up because they sit next to each other on the site. One is a free WordPress plugin that audits the posts you already published. The other is a pay-as-you-go toolkit that writes and re-optimizes articles from a keyword. They are not two versions of the same product, and they do not replace Yoast or Rank Math.
This post is the difference, in plain terms: what each one actually does, when to use which, and why most sites with an existing library should audit before they generate more drafts.
A content audit and an AI writer are different jobs
A WordPress content audit answers: what is wrong with the library I already have? Missing meta descriptions, thin stubs, stale posts, pages nothing links to, two articles covering the same topic. That is a scan across every published URL, not a checklist on the post you have open.
An AI SEO article writer answers: I have a keyword (or a thin page I already decided to fix) – help me research, draft, or refresh it. That is a writing workflow. It does not tell you which of your 400 posts is an orphan.
If you only remember one line: the plugin finds the backlog; the toolkit clears it. You can use either alone. You do not have to buy credits to run the audit, and you do not have to install the plugin to generate a draft.
What the free plugin actually checks
NetoTraffic Content Suite (the current name; it used to be called Content Health) is a free WordPress.org plugin. You install it, run a site-wide scan, and get nine issue counts, one Content Health score, and a “fix these first” shortlist. The scan reads your local database. Nothing is sent to netotraffic.com unless you later paste an API key and click Fix.
That is the point of a library-level audit. Yoast, Rank Math, and SEOPress are good at the post in the editor. They will not list every published URL with zero internal links, every stub still in the index, or two posts competing for the same query. Per-post tools cannot see the corpus.
The nine checks cover missing or weak meta descriptions, title-tag length, thin content, stale articles (Search Console can add extra signal if you connect it), orphan pages, link health, missing image alt text, heading structure, and corpus overlap – duplicates, same-topic pairs, merge candidates, missing pillars. Overlap is computed from your posts. You do not need AI for the report.
When the plugin writes a meta description or title, it writes into the SEO plugin you already use – Yoast, Rank Math, or SEOPress – not a competing custom field. Optional AI (batch metas, title rewrites, alt text, internal-link suggestions, thin-page drafts) only appears if you paste a key. Undo is stored before each write.
What the AI SEO toolkit actually writes
The AI SEO Content Toolkit is not a plugin. It runs in your netotraffic.com dashboard. You buy credits – the same balance as website traffic orders – and spend them on five tools. There is no monthly seat. A 600–900 word draft is 150 credits (about $0.75 at the usual 10,000 credits / $50 rate); longer drafts cost more.
The Idea Generator is on the product page with no signup: type a topic, get three article angles. Full access adds a Keyword Expander (one seed keyword to a primary / secondary / long-tail map), a full article generator with headings and internal-link suggestions, a Meta/SEO Re-optimizer for a live URL’s title, meta, and outline, and repurposing into an X thread, LinkedIn post, or email blurb. Drafts export as Gutenberg blocks, HTML, Markdown, or CSV, in any of 20 languages.
You copy the output into WordPress yourself. It does not auto-publish. Outline approval is optional and comes off the article price if you then write the full draft.

Should you audit WordPress content before writing new articles?
If you already have a library, yes. Adding another AI draft on top of thin posts, orphan pages, and two articles fighting the same keyword does not fix the index. It adds more URLs for Google to choose from. The audit tells you what to merge, redirect, differentiate, or refresh. Then you write.
Skip the audit and go straight to the toolkit when the site is new, you already know the keyword, you only need a keyword map before a cluster, or you want to refresh title and meta on a specific live URL.
Use both when you publish often and have never scanned the archive – affiliate blogs and small business sites with years of posts are the usual case. Scan first, then spend credits on the gaps the report actually named.
How to find orphan pages, thin content, and keyword cannibalization
Install Content Suite, run the scan, and open the cards. Orphan pages are published posts and pages with no internal links pointing to them. Thin content is short stubs that are easy to miss if you only ever edit one post. Stale content is old URLs still being crawled. Cannibalization shows up in the corpus report as overlapping topics and merge candidates – not as a Yoast traffic light on a single editor screen.
Bulk missing meta descriptions are the same idea: the plugin counts them site-wide, then you fix by hand or, if you choose, with optional AI into the SEO fields you already have. None of this requires a netotraffic.com account.
How this differs from Yoast, Rank Math, or a monthly AI writer
Yoast and Rank Math do not audit your whole WordPress site in the sense people mean when they search that question. They score the post that is open. Keep them. Content Suite sits next to them and still writes into their title and description fields.
Monthly AI writers sell a seat for a month, whether you publish or not. The toolkit sells credits, exports Gutenberg-ready HTML, and shares that balance with traffic. If you already buy visitors here, you are not opening a second subscription to draft an article.
A simple order of work
- Install Content Suite and run the free site-wide audit. No account.
- Start with the fix-first list – usually missing metas, orphans, and thin pages.
- Read the corpus report before you commission more posts on a topic you already cover.
- Use the AI SEO Toolkit to draft the thin pages, refresh stale sections, or fill a missing pillar. Approve an outline first if you want control over the structure.
- If you want batch meta and title writes without leaving WordPress, paste a netotraffic.com key into the plugin. Same credits as the toolkit and as traffic orders.
Common questions
Is Content Health the same as Content Suite?
Yes. Same free audit plugin, renamed.
Can I use the plugin without the toolkit?
Yes. The full audit is free forever. AI buttons in the plugin do not show without a key.
Can I use the toolkit without the plugin?
Yes. WordPress is not required. You copy Gutenberg, HTML, or Markdown out of the dashboard.
Is either one a subscription?
No. The audit is free. Toolkit runs and optional plugin AI spend credits.
Which should I open first?
Existing library: the free Content Suite audit. Starting from a keyword with almost no posts: the AI SEO Toolkit – the Idea Generator on that page does not need a signup.
